Amazon says its Leadership Principles are used in everyday decisions. That makes them a sensible starting point for preparation. The right goal is not to memorise a list from the internet. It is to have real examples ready for the themes you may be asked to discuss.
The sample questions below are original practice prompts. They are not claimed to be exact Amazon interview questions.
1. Start with the official principles
Read Amazon’s published Leadership Principles. Pick the themes closest to the role and your genuine experience. Common examples include Customer Obsession, Ownership, Dive Deep, Earn Trust, Have Backbone; Disagree and Commit, and Deliver Results.
2. Turn each principle into evidence
Ownership: Think of a time you took responsibility beyond the narrow boundary of your task.
Evidence to find: The situation, what you noticed, what you chose to own, who you involved, and what changed.
Do not invent: A bigger customer impact, team conflict or metric than you can explain.
3. Original practice questions
- Tell me about a time you saw a problem that was not formally yours to solve. What did you do?
- Describe a time data and opinion pointed in different directions. How did you decide what to trust?
- Tell me about a decision you respectfully challenged. What happened after the decision was made?
- Describe a result you delivered despite a setback or unexpected constraint.
- Tell me about a time you earned trust with someone who was initially sceptical.
4. Build a small, flexible story bank
Choose six to eight true examples. A project can sometimes support more than one theme, but only if you take a different truthful angle. If there was no disagreement, do not use it for a disagreement question. If you were not accountable for the result, say what you were accountable for instead.
5. Prepare for the follow-up
Expect a follow-up on the decision, the number, the obstacle or your individual contribution. Keep confidential details private, but know the facts behind your answer. That is more valuable than a polished opening line.
Turn the role into your own evidence map.
Paste the job description and work through the questions that fit this specific role. Keep the gaps visible and build only the stories you can stand behind.

Are these the exact questions Amazon will ask?
No. They are original practice questions built around publicly available leadership-principle themes. Interview formats and questions can vary by role, level, location and interviewer.
Should every answer mention a leadership principle?
No. Focus on giving a clear, true account of what happened. The principle is a preparation lens, not a phrase you need to insert into every answer.
