CGI Interview Intelligence

Questions built for your role at CGI, each with a guide to structuring the answer against your own experience.

CGI calls its people Members rather than employees, and invites many of them to buy into the company they work for.

CGI's own careers material describes being invited to become a company owner from day one, with a stated share in the direction of the business. A generic answer about wanting a stable IT employer misses the one thing CGI actually asks candidates to buy into.

Round 2

A group case study, not a one to one interview

Built from CGI’s own hiring materials and common patterns for the role. Not affiliated with CGI.

02 / Hiring process

Four stages, and one of them decides it

4 stages from application to offer. Assessment Day is reported to be the one that decides it.

4stages

01

Recruiter prescreen 15 minutes, phone or video

CGI's own New Grad Program FAQ names a 15 minute call with a member of the Campus Recruitment Team, covering preliminary prescreen and behavioural questions. Experienced hires are reported to go through a comparable recruiter screen before any technical conversation, though CGI does not publish that stage's length or format the way it does for the graduate route.

02

Assessment Day group case study

Named directly on CGI's own Canada careers FAQ as the New Grad Program's second round: a group case study interview process rather than a one to one conversation. Candidates are assessed alongside other applicants, which changes what is being scored: how you contribute to a group's reasoning, not only whether your own answer is right.

03

Final interview with the hiring team technical or experience based

CGI states this round is technical in nature for technical positions, and about previous work experience and industry knowledge for business roles. It is run by the actual hiring team rather than a recruiter, which is reported to be where fit with the specific practice and client account gets tested.

04

Offer and practice placement role and client dependent

CGI staffs consultants against live client engagements, so an offer is reported to name a practice and, for many roles, an intended account or sector before a start date is confirmed.

Ask before the interview: what will this round cover, who will I meet, and is there anything I should prepare? The question almost nobody asks

03 / Question library

Interview question practice library

Every practice sits behind the same three stage process, so the core set below applies whatever you applied for. Each specialist practice then adds the questions specific to it.

01 Why do you want to work at CGI? Motivation Open guide

Find your angle. The opening question at the recruiter prescreen. CGI is not a household name the way a hyperscaler is, so a vague answer about wanting IT experience says you have not looked past the name.

Build your answer

  • Name something specific. The ownership model, a named practice, or a client sector CGI serves that you actually care about.
  • Connect it to your history. Why that particular thing matters given what you have actually done.
  • Say what you want from the role. What you hope to build or learn, stated plainly.

Bring the evidence

One concrete, checkable fact about CGI's business or ownership model tied to something real about your own background.

What weakens it

It's a big, stable IT company with good opportunities. True of a dozen consulting firms.

02 Tell me about a time you took ownership of something that was not formally your responsibility. Ownership Open guide

Find your angle. Maps directly to CGI's stated 'Be an owner' pillar. They want a concrete instance, not a claim to be a proactive person.

Build your answer

  • Name the gap. What was not being handled, and why it mattered.
  • Show what you actually did. The specific action, not a general attitude of stepping up.
  • State the outcome. What changed because you acted, ideally something measurable.

Bring the evidence

A specific gap you noticed, the action you took without being told to, and a concrete result.

What weakens it

I try to be a proactive person who does more than what is asked.

05 / The three values

What is actually being scored

CGI's own careers language is built around three stated commitments to its people, called Members rather than employees. Bring a story that answers each, not a general answer about wanting stability.

3stories

Be an owner

CGI's own material describes being invited to become a company owner from day one, with a stated benefit from and say in the company's direction. A time you took ownership of an outcome that was not formally assigned to you.

Be creative

Framed around interesting assignments and job rotations that let you deepen your skills while consulting on solutions that create change. A time you proposed a different approach than the one you were handed.

Be supported

Stated as a premium on professional development and wellbeing. A time support from a manager or mentor changed what you were able to do, not one you managed entirely alone.

06 / Before you apply

Where candidates lose it

Pro Where candidates lose this before anyone meets them

The part of the process that eliminates most people is not the interview. It is what happens around it, and almost none of it is written down anywhere.

  • The assessment answers that read as dishonest rather than confident
  • What the availability question is really deciding
  • The application detail that cannot be edited once submitted
