Grant Thornton Interview Intelligence

Questions built for your practice at Grant Thornton, each with a guide to structuring the answer against your own experience.

Candidates are reported to face two separate thirty minute manager interviews, each mixing standard behavioural questions with a mini case, rather than one longer combined round.

A thirty minute HR phone screen opens the process, and a final round of two to three partner interviews closes it, with some candidates also completing a digital interview or a written case somewhere along the way.

01 Why Grant Thornton over one of the Big Four? Motivation Open guide

Find your angle. Checks whether a candidate has a real reason for choosing a mid-size firm specifically, not just a fallback story from a Big Four rejection.

Build your answer

  • Name something specific to Grant Thornton. Not just 'smaller firm', an actual concrete difference.
  • Tie it to something you've actually valued. A project, role or preference pointing at that difference.
  • State what you want from working there. Concrete, not a generic career statement.

Bring the evidence

One specific, real reason for preferring Grant Thornton's scale or structure over a larger firm, tied to your own experience.

What weakens it

Grant Thornton has a great culture and good opportunities.

02 How would you use a thirty minute call to make sure a recruiter remembers you accurately afterward? HR phone screen Open guide

Find your angle. The reported HR phone screen is short and often one of many a recruiter runs that day, testing whether a candidate can leave a distinct, accurate impression.

Build your answer

  • Name the one thing you'd want remembered. Specific, not a vague overall impression.
  • Explain how you'd make sure it landed. A concrete way of saying it memorably.
  • Give a comparable past instance. A short conversation where you made a point stick.

Bring the evidence

A specific instance of making one point memorably clear in a short conversation with someone meeting many people that day.

What weakens it

I'd just talk through my resume and answer their questions.

What is actually being scored

Grant Thornton publishes its values as the CLEARR framework, six named principles in this exact language. Bring one real story for each rather than a general answer about wanting to work at a mid-size firm.

Leadership

A time you challenged someone, including yourself, to do better than the plan already called for.

Excellence

A time you found a genuinely better way to do something everyone else had already accepted as good enough.

Agility

A time you changed direction quickly when the situation shifted, rather than sticking with the original plan.

Where candidates lose it

  • What the availability question is really deciding
  • The application detail that cannot be edited once submitted
